Interior
The layout and the storage get worked out before a single door front gets chosen. Moving a sink or a range decides the budget more than any finish does, so drainage, venting and circuits get named at the design stage.
Kitchen remodeling

Waterproofing is the whole job before a single tile gets picked. Substrate, membrane and fall to the drain come first, and ventilation gets sized for a Minnesota winter so the room can actually dry out.
Bathroom remodeling
Main level
Opening a main level is structural work wearing a finish. Beams, headers and point loads get worked out first, then one material language carries the whole floor so the house reads as one house.

Moisture, ceiling height and egress get decided before a stud goes up, for a below grade room that ends up warm, dry and quiet.
